Net-Zero Asset Owners Alliance (NZAOA)

Launched in September 2019 by six institutions including three insurers (Allianz, Caisse des Dépôts, La Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ), Folksam Group, PensionDanmark and Swiss Re) by March 2022 the alliance counted 70 members, including 38 insurers with over $10.4 trillion in combined assets under management.

The Alliance is convened by the UNEP’s Finance Initiative and the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI).

To achieve its goals, the alliance uses state-of-the-art tools coordinate with various other asset owner initiatives that have taken the lead on climate action.
In their work, they focus on:

  • Investor ambition and setting portfolio-level targets
  • Impact on the real economy and emissions
  • Implementation via holistic ESG approach to measure and manage impacts
  • Collaborative engagement and monitoring of this based on authoritative and credible scientific input
