A food production system (dominant in the United States) characterised by large-scale monoculture, heavy use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides, and meat production in confined animal feeding operations (CAFOs).

Industrial agriculture is also defined by its heavy emphasis on a few crops that are used primarily as animal feed, biofuels and processed food ingredients.
