A subset on the spectrum of investment, catalytic capital is typically patient, risk-tolerant, concessionary and/or flexible in ways that conventional investment usually is not.

It is intended to be a tool to bridge capital gaps, in order to support the achievement of desired social impacts, and to complement conventional forms of investment capital. It can take the form of debt, equity or guarantees.
