1. The amount of emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) released per unit of another variable such as gross domestic product (GDP), output energy use or transport. (UNFCCC).

2. In an investment context, an entity’s carbon emissions divided by its revenues, though the denominator can also be one of (for instance) square meter, per employee, unit of production.
