A way of measuring the climate impact of an organisation’s business activities by using accounting principles to quantify its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Carbon accounting is the process of calculating, analysing, measuring, and reporting an organisation’s GHG emissions so that it is fully auditable.

A large number of software programmes have emerged (and continue to do so) to help organisations automate this process.
